Lennie Lawrences first game in charge saw Cardiff take all three points. Cardiffs goal was scored from the penalty spot by Graham Kavanagh after Peter Thorne had been taken down by a Bury defender.
Cardiff had a few more chances but they were spurned by Jason Bowen, and a diving header by Andy Legg was saved by the Bury goalkeeper.
